This traditional village in the Gilan province is an increasingly popular retreat for vacationing Iranians. While three metres of snow in winter isn't unusual, the climate in spring and summer is refreshing.

The slope is so steep and the houses so close together that there are few alleys. Instead, the flat grey roofs of each level serve as pathways for the level above.
